Guichen asked, “Where are you going?”
Fayan replied, “I’m wandering at random.”
Guichen said, “What do you think of wandering?”
Fayan replied, “I don’t know.”
Guichen said, “Not knowing is most intimate.”
At these words Fayan instantly experienced enlightenment.
Zen has a marvellous history of pilgrimage and wandering, and we honour this each season with a morning of silent walking meditation (yatra) in the bush around Castlemaine. Let your body and mind settle into the rocks, trees and wildlife of Central Victoria and rediscover your intimacy with the mind of not-knowing.
Don’t forget to bring some morning tea to share, sturdy boots, water, hat and wet weather gear if it’s raining.
Family, friends and newcomers welcome!
