Nobody Owns, by Junko Azukawa
Japanese Ink painting (sumi-e) has a long and distinguished relationship to Zen. If you have ever dabbled with the brush, wondered about Zen painting, or yearened for the opportunity to learn from a sumi-e master, this is your great chance.
No experience is necessary and complete beginners are welcome. Don’t miss this opportunity to unlock your creativity and deepen your Zen practice.
Where: West End Hall
When: 1—4pm
Cost: $ (members); $ (non-members)
NOTE: Places are strictly limited so book early to secure your place.
Junko Azukawa grew up in Toyama, Japan, at the base of the central Japanese Alps, a region famous for the natural beauty of its landscape.
She started learning traditional Japanese calligraphy, Shodo, at the age of five and has experienced the vast possibilities that calligraphy and Japanese ink painting, Sumi-e, can express with just simple monochrome brush marks.
Recent Junko’s artwork has been influenced by Australian plants and birds. She invites you on a journey between two cultures as she uses a traditional art medium and techniques from her birth country of Japan to embody the essence of wildlife and plants from her current home of Australia.
Together with a lifelong study of traditional calligraphy and ink painting, Junko has found peace and appreciation deep within and loves sharing with her audience the intimate relationship between mother nature including animals and human nature through her brush.
